What S 6813 does, verified May 13, 2026

The "Optometry Freedom Act" aims to increase patient choice and flexibility in the optometry industry. It prohibits contracts between optometrists and vision care plans from restricting the optometrist's choice of suppliers or optical labs. The act also clarifies the definition of "covered materials" and "covered services" to ensure that optometrists can provide a wider range of treatments and devices to patients. The law takes effect immediately, allowing optometrists to make their own decisions about suppliers and labs without fear of reprisal. This change is intended to promote competition and improve patient outcomes in the optometry industry.
