What S 6819 does, verified October 17, 2025

The bill allows the assessor of Nassau County to accept an application for real property tax exemption from Chabad of West Hempstead for a specific parcel of land. The exemption applies to various tax years, including the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school taxes, as well as the restored 2024-2025 and 2025 general taxes. If accepted, the application will be reviewed as if it had been received on time, and the assessor may make corrections to the subject rolls if the organization meets the exemption requirements. The governing body or tax department may then provide for the refund of any taxes paid and cancel any remaining taxes, fines, or penalties. The exemption is contingent on approval by the Nassau County Legislature.
