Senate BillIntroduced
S 6978: Removes statute of limitations for certain civil actions related to child sexual assault offenses.
What S 6978 does, verified September 28, 2025
The bill aims to remove the statute of limitations in civil actions involving certain child sexual assault offenses. This means that victims of these crimes can now file lawsuits against their perpetrators at any time, regardless of how long ago the crime occurred. The bill also allows for the revival of previously dismissed cases that were deemed time-barred or due to a failure to file a notice of claim. The affirmative defenses available in criminal cases will also apply in civil cases. The bill has no waiting period and can be filed at any time, allowing victims to seek justice without fear of time constraints.
