Senate BillIntroduced
S 7101: Relates to references by a city school district in a city with a population of one million or more to public holidays, specifically Columbus Day; provides that any literature or document created and/or distributed by such district do the same including school calendars.
What S 7101 does, verified January 9, 2026
The proposed law aims to ensure that city school districts in New York with a population of one million or more accurately refer to public holidays. It requires these districts to use the designated names of public holidays as specified in the General Construction Law. This means that school calendars and other documents must also use these accurate names for public holidays, including Columbus Day. The law takes effect immediately, requiring these districts to make these changes starting from the current year.
