What S 7106 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to regulate the placement of fifth-generation (5G) telecommunications towers in cities with a population of one million or more. A 5G tower is defined as a freestanding structure used for providing fifth-generation wireless services, including ancillary equipment. In these cities, 5G towers cannot be placed within 250 feet of a business or personal residence without written consent from the owner. Additionally, no 5G tower can be placed without the approval of the local community board, and a city environmental quality review must be conducted to assess potential environmental impacts. The results of the review will be provided to the local community board once completed. The law will take effect immediately.
