S 7161: Prohibits a school district from employing a qualified physician or nurse practitioner as a director of school health services if such qualified physician or nurse practitioner is already employed by another school district.
What S 7161 does, verified January 11, 2026
The proposed legislation aims to regulate the employment of certain health professionals in public schools. The law requires school districts to employ a qualified physician or nurse practitioner to perform duties related to school health services. However, if a physician or nurse practitioner is already employed by another school district, the new district cannot hire them unless there is a shortage of eligible candidates in the area. The health professionals employed must be duly licensed and authorized to practice under applicable law. The law takes effect immediately.
