Senate BillIntroduced
S 7709: Relates to alternative forms of identification for renters insurance, including a municipal identification card, or other state or local government-issued identification card, or a notarized copy of the rental lease signed by the property owner, the property management firm and the insured.
What S 7709 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to expand the types of identification that renters insurance companies can accept. Currently, they are limited to social security numbers. The new law would allow insurers to also accept municipal identification cards and other state or local government-issued identification cards. Additionally, insurers may require a notarized copy of the rental lease signed by the property owner, property management firm, and the insured as proof of identity. This change would take effect immediately.
