What S 782 does, verified July 2, 2025

The bill proposes to grant a property tax exemption to ocean rescue squad members in certain municipalities with a population between 28,300 and 28,400 according to the 2020 census. The exemption will be up to 10% of the assessed value of the property, exclusive of special assessments, and will only be granted if the applicant resides in the municipality served by the ocean rescue squad, has the property as their primary residence, and uses it exclusively for residential purposes. The exemption will also be granted to the spouse of a deceased member if they meet certain requirements, such as being certified by the authority having jurisdiction and having been receiving the exemption prior to the member's death. The bill aims to provide a tax exemption to ocean rescue squad members as a form of recognition for their service and to encourage them to continue serving in the community.
