S 8182: Directs the commissioner of corrections and community supervision to establish procedures to allow an incarcerated individual in a correctional facility which has suspended visiting privileges to have private meetings with their legal counsel.
What S 8182 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law aims to provide incarcerated individuals with access to legal counsel when their visiting privileges have been suspended. The law would establish procedures to allow private meetings between the individual and their lawyer, which can be conducted in-person, via telephone, or electronically. This would enable inmates to receive legal advice and representation, even when they are unable to meet with their lawyer in person due to suspended visiting privileges. The law would take effect immediately.
