S 8216: Grants retroactive tier II membership in the New York state and local police and fire retirement system to Daniel Rizzo.
The bill aims to grant retroactive Tier II membership to Daniel Rizzo, a former employee of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, in the New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System. This means he will be considered a member of the system as of his first employment date, October 19, 2009, and will be granted Tier II status. As a result, he will be eligible for benefits and will receive a refund of any employee contributions he made that would not have been made with Tier II status. The state will bear the costs associated with implementing this change, which includes a one-time payment of approximately $56,500. The city of Rochester will also need to pay an additional $9,100 in annual contributions to the retirement system for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. This change will take effect immediately.
