What S 8243 does, verified September 28, 2025

The bill aims to amend the agriculture and markets law in New York. It introduces a change to the produce security fund, allowing the commissioner to suspend collection of fees if the fund exceeds six million dollars on the one hundred twentieth day prior to the next license year. However, the commissioner must have reason to believe that pending claims may reduce the fund below that amount. If the fund exceeds six million dollars but, when adjusted for inflation, does not provide the same level of protection, the commissioner will continue to collect fees for the year. The changes will take effect immediately.
