Senate BillPassed both houses
S 8454: Exempts persons holding the offices of public health director and director of community services of St. Lawrence county from the requirement that such person be a resident of the political subdivision or municipal corporation of the state for which such person shall be chosen or within which such person's official functions are required to be exercised.
What S 8454 does, verified October 17, 2026
The proposed law aims to waive the residency requirement for certain positions in St. Lawrence County, New York. Currently, a person must be a resident of the county they are chosen to serve or within which their official functions are required. However, the law would allow a person to hold the office of County Public Health Director or Director of Community Services in St. Lawrence County if they reside in a county adjacent to St. Lawrence County. This exception would not apply to individuals holding similar positions in other counties. The proposed law would take effect immediately.
