What S 877 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the election law to allow 17-year-old United States citizens who will turn 18 by the date of the corresponding general election to vote in a primary election, including a presidential primary. This provision would not prohibit these citizens from voting in a primary election, but rather would allow them to participate in the process while still being under the required voting age for the general election. The changes would take effect immediately.
