STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 923 2025-2026 Regular Sessions IN SENATE (Prefiled) January 8, 2025 ___________ Introduced by Sen. SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to changing party enroll- ment of voters where the enrolled party contained the word "Independ- ence" or "Independent" The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The election law is amended by adding a new section 5-312 2 to read as follows: 3 § 5-312. Enrollment; unenrollment from certain parties. Any person 4 enrolled in a party which includes the words "Independence" or "Inde- 5 pendent" shall have their voter enrollment changed such that they are 6 not enrolled in any party. 7 § 2.
