What S 9447 does, verified October 17, 2026

The bill aims to amend the Village Law and the Public Officers Law in the state of New York. The Village of Briarcliff Manor is allowed to permit non-residents to hold the offices of village treasurer, deputy village treasurer, village clerk, deputy clerk, and building inspector, provided they reside in Westchester County, an adjoining county, or Dutchess County. The new law relaxes the residency requirement for certain village officials, allowing them to hold office without being a resident of the village itself. However, the person performing the functions of these positions in other municipalities must still be a resident of that municipality, unless otherwise specified by state law.
