HB 284: Require US-produced iron, steel be used on state-funded projects
The bill aims to promote the use of iron and steel products produced in the United States in projects supported by state funds. It requires that only iron or steel products produced in the United States be used for projects funded by state capital funds, including education facilities trust funds. This applies to buildings, structures, infrastructure, and utility infrastructure improvement projects. The bill also establishes a civil penalty for individuals or companies that purchase or provide iron or steel products from foreign countries in violation of the requirement. A minimal amount of foreign iron or steel products can be used in bridge projects if the cost is less than one-tenth of one percent of the total contract cost or $2,500, whichever is greater. The bill is intended to support domestic industries and promote the use of American-made products.
