HB 339: Allow surviving spouse to retain Purple Heart license plate

Ohio · House · 136th General Assembly (2025–2026) · last verified September 24, 2026

What HB 339 does, verified September 24, 2026

The bill allows the surviving spouse of a Purple Heart recipient to retain or obtain the "Purple Heart" specialty license plate. The surviving spouse must provide documentary evidence of the deceased recipient's Purple Heart award and meet other requirements. The license plate will be issued without the payment of certain registration fees, but the spouse may be required to pay other taxes and fees. The bill also prohibits falsely representing oneself as a Purple Heart recipient or the spouse of one, and requires the registrar to replace the license plate with a non-Purple Heart plate after the owner's death.
