What HB 680 does, verified March 16, 2026

The bill aims to protect the rights of criminal defendants by ensuring they are not forced into treatment for substance use disorder or mental health conditions at specific types of entities. No judge can require treatment at a for-profit or nonprofit entity, including faith-based organizations, based solely on their status. This protection is intended to promote fairness and prevent discrimination in the treatment process.
