HB 691: Enact the Community and Police Protection Act

Ohio · House · 136th General Assembly (2025–2026) · last verified February 19, 2026

What HB 691 does, verified February 19, 2026

The proposed law aims to regulate the use of masks by law enforcement officers. It prohibits officers from wearing masks while interacting with the public, except for specific medical or protective purposes. These exceptions include masks to prevent the transmission of airborne diseases, protection from smoke or environmental dangers, and specialized equipment used by special weapons and tactics teams. Officers must display their name and badge number as part of their uniform. Violating these regulations can result in a misdemeanor charge. The law does not apply to officers engaged in undercover assignments. If any provision of the law is held invalid, the remaining provisions can still be enforced.
