HCR 25: Encourage study of Declaration of Independence during U.S. 250th

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To encourage students in grades one through twelve to 1
read, study, and discuss the U.S. Declaration of 2
Independence in the classroom during the 2025-2026 3
school year in celebration of its 250th anniversary. 4
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS, The 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. 5
Declaration of Independence is on July 4, 2026; and 6
WHEREAS, The United States Semiquincentennial Commission 7
was established by Congress in 2016 to plan and orchestrate the 8
250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of 9
Independence of the United States; and 10
WHEREAS, President Donald Trump established Task Force 250 11
to provide a grand celebration worthy of the momentous occasion 12
of the 250th anniversary of American Independence and to honor 13
the history of our great Nation; and 14
WHEREAS, Students and schools should join in the meaningful 15
celebrations taking place nationally in recognition of the 250th 16
anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; and 17
WHEREAS, An understanding of the founding documents, 18
especially the Declaration of Independence, is an important 19
component of each student's education; now therefore be it 20
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 136th General 21
Assembly of the State of Ohio, encourage students in grades one 22
through twelve to join in the national celebration of the 250th 23
anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by reading, 24
studying, and discussing it in the classroom during the 2025- 25
2026 school year; and be it further 26
RESOLVED, That we encourage schools to provide formal 27
classroom time for students to read, study and discuss the 28
Declaration of Independence during the 2025-2026 school year; 29
and be it further 30
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 31
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 32
President of the United States, the Director of Education and 33
Workforce, and the news media of Ohio. 34
