HCR 4: Condemn issuance of pardons and commutations for January 6, 2021

To condemn President Trump's issuance of pardons and 1
commutations for individuals convicted in connection 2
with the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the United 3
States Capitol, including those who committed violent 4
acts against law enforcement officers. 5
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS, President Donald Trump recently issued more than 6
one thousand five hundred pardons and commuted the sentences of 7
fourteen individuals in connection with the attack on the United 8
States Capitol on January 6, 2021, when thousands stormed the 9
historic building; and 10
WHEREAS, President Trump commuted the sentences of 11
individuals who were convicted of seditious conspiracy. The 12
President also issued "a full, complete and unconditional pardon 13
to all other individuals convicted of offenses related to events 14
that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 15
2021." The group of pardoned individuals includes those who 16
assaulted law enforcement officers; and 17
WHEREAS, The President by issuing those pardons became an

advocate for unjustified vigilantism and the mistreatment and 19
disrespect to the nation's police officers, including those who 20
put their lives on the line to protect the nation's Capitol; and 21
WHEREAS, The United States is a country of democracy and 22
justice and does not condone the actions of citizens who 23
undermine government authority when they disagree with an 24
election outcome. The attack on the Capitol ruined and 25
interrupted a peaceful transfer of power and is a terrible 26
addition to American history; now therefore be it 27
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 136th General 28
Assembly of the State of Ohio, fully disapprove of President 29
Trump's actions and stand against his decision to pardon the 30
criminals who stormed the United States Capitol and assaulted 31
law enforcement officers; and be it further 32
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 33
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 34
members of the Ohio Congressional delegation and the news media 35
of Ohio. 36
