A RESOLUTION
Honoring The University of Akron men's basketball team as the 2025 MAC Tournament Champion.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to commend The University of Akron men's basketball team on winning the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championship for the second consecutive year; and
WHEREAS, A remarkable group of young athletes, the members of The University of Akron men's basketball team have combined talent and spirit with the highest ideals of good sportsmanship to establish themselves as truly exceptional competitors. With admirable dedication, the team has worked diligently toward attaining ultimate proficiency in basketball, and as a result, they finished the season with an impressive 28-7 overall record and a 17-1 MAC record, which tied for the best record in conference history. In addition, they claimed the MAC Tournament Championship with a dramatic 76-74 victory over Miami University to earn a bid to the 2025 NCAA Tournament; and
WHEREAS, The achievements and leadership of The University of Akron men's basketball team are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection on the players, their families, their school community and fans, and their coach, John Groce. Indeed, in leading the squad to victory, Coach Groce has helped these athletes to develop great talent and instilled valuable lessons of determination, perseverance, and camaraderie that will last their lifetimes; and
WHEREAS, With athletic competition playing such an important role in the total education of our young people, we are pleased to pay tribute to all those who comprise The University of Akron men's basketball team for a job well done. The maturity and experience the team members have gained through their participation in sports will greatly aid them in meeting the challenges of the future; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud The University of Akron men's basketball team on its tremendous 2024-2025 season and salute the members and coaches as fine ambassadors of the Zips athletic program; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to The University of Akron men's basketball team.
