Honoring The Ohio State University football team on winning the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to salute The Ohio State 2
University football team as the 2024 College Football Playoff National 3
Champion; and 4
WHEREAS, Establishing a reputation for its skill and tenacity, The 5
Ohio State University football team is an impressive group of athletes 6
whose talent and teamwork are unmatched. After being selected to 7
compete in the inaugural twelve-team College Football Playoff, the 8
squad advanced through the brackets in a domineering fashion, leading 9
for 194 out of 240 minutes in its four playoff games to defeat 10
competitors from the universities of Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas 11
before seizing the national championship title with a 34-23 win over 12
the University of Notre Dame, and this victory, the ninth national 13
crown in program history, will be celebrated for many years to come; 14
and 15
WHEREAS, The members of The Ohio State University football team 16
rose to the occasion and proved themselves to be a dynamic force in 17
collegiate sports. During the season, the Buckeyes beat six top-ten 18
teams, including five top-five teams, and tied a school record with 19
fourteen wins in a season, and the players also posted a perfect 20
multiyear Academic Progress Rate score of 1,000, covering the 2019-20, 21
2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23 academic years, for the first time. 22
Truly, these outstanding scholar-athletes can be proud of the 23
accomplishments that were hard-won and well-deserved; and 24

WHEREAS, By remaining faithful to the highest standards of 25
sportsmanship and teamwork, the members of The Ohio State University 26
football team primed themselves under the guidance of Coach Ryan Day 27
and his assistants to secure this year’s College Football Playoff 28
National Championship crown. During his tenure, Coach Day has compiled 29
an impressive .875 winning percentage, the third highest in college 30
football history, and has led the Buckeyes to four College Football 31
Playoff appearances and forty-five regular-season wins since 2019, the 32
most of any college in that time; therefore be it 33
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 34
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 35
recognize The Ohio State University football team on its success and 36
honor the athletes and coaches for their tremendous prowess; and be it 37
further 38
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 39
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to The Ohio State 40
University football team. 41
