A R E S O L U T I O N

Recognizing the 74th annual National Day of Prayer, May 1, 2025.

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to take this opportunity to 2
recognize May 1, 2025, as the National Day of Prayer; and 3
WHEREAS, National days of prayer have long been an integral part 4
of our nation’s heritage, inviting all Americans to unite in prayer 5
for our country and its leaders. In 1952, a joint action of the United 6
States Congress called upon the President to set aside one day each 7
year as a National Day of Prayer. To perpetuate this annual tradition, 8
the National Day of Prayer was officially designated as the first 9
Thursday of every May by legislation ratified in 1988 and revised in 10
1998; and 11
WHEREAS, Throughout our nation’s history, in times of war and 12
peace, prosperity and depression, joy and sorrow, national leaders and 13
individuals of all stations in life have prayed for guidance, wisdom, 14
and strength. As we face the enormous challenges inherent in a complex 15
and rapidly changing world, we can draw inspiration, faith, and 16
courage from the religious freedom given to us by America’s founding 17
fathers; and 18
WHEREAS, On the occasion of the National Day of Prayer, we 19
encourage all Ohioans to reflect on the role of religion in our 20
society and on the rights of all citizens to freedom of worship 21
granted under the Ohio Constitution and the Constitution of the United 22
States of America. It is our privilege and our responsibility to 23
reflect upon the tremendous historical significance and importance of 24
prayer in our society today; therefore be it 25

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 26
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 27
recognize the National Day of Prayer, May 1, 2025, and, in so doing, 28
encourage all Ohioans to take part in this important observance; and 29
be it further 30
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 31
duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of 32
Ohio. 33
