A R E S O L U T I O N
In memory of Ross Allen Boggs, Jr.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th 1
General Assembly of Ohio were deeply saddened to learn of the death of 2
Ross Allen Boggs, Jr., and extend our heartfelt condolences to his 3
family and friends; and 4
WHEREAS, Ross Boggs left an indelible impression on the people 5
whose lives he touched, and he will be remembered as a spirited 6
individual who contributed immeasurably to the world around him. A 7
player on the Washington Senators’ minor league baseball team, he was 8
a junior high school history teacher for the Pymatuning Valley Local 9
Schools, where he also served as a football and basketball coach and 10
athletic director, an employee of Rockwell Brake, a heavy equipment 11

operator in International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, 12
working for Skidmore and Chah, a co-owner with his wife of the Red 13
Barn Sweet Corn and Produce Market, and a parishioner of Andover 14
United Methodist Church, and he served his fellow citizens as a 15
trustee for Andover Township and a member of the Pymatuning Valley 16
Local School Board and the Ohio House of Representatives, holding this 17
post from 1983 to 1999 and attaining the rank of Minority Leader. 18
Indeed, his love for Ohio and his sincere desire to serve its people 19
to the best of his ability have shown him to be a truly concerned and 20
responsible public servant; and 21
WHEREAS, Ross Boggs’ regard for improving the quality of life in 22
our society was clearly evident in his personal sacrifices of time and 23
effort to his family, friends, and community. Giving generously of his 24
energy and abilities in all of his endeavors, he displayed exceptional 25
concern and insight, and his absence will be keenly felt; and 26
WHEREAS, A loving husband to his wife of nearly sixty-nine years, 27
Eleanor, a devoted father to his four children, Robin, Leslie, 28
Shelley, and Sue, a doting grandfather to his eleven grandchildren and 29
nine great-grandchildren, and a cherished brother to his four 30
siblings, Ross Boggs always used his talents to the benefit of others, 31
and the laurels of his life stand as a tribute not only to him but 32
also to those he left behind. Although the void his death has created 33
can never be filled, the legacy of care and commitment he established 34
will surely live on. The world is a richer place for his having been 35
in it, and he will be sorely missed; therefore be it 36
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 37
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 38
express a profound sense of loss and sincere regret at the death of 39
Ross Allen Boggs, Jr., and, in so doing, pay tribute to the memory of 40
a truly unique individual; and be it further 41
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 42
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Ross 43
Allen Boggs, Jr. 44
