A R E S O L U T I O N
Honoring the Orrville Public Library on its Centennial.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate the Orrville 2
Public Library on the auspicious occasion of its One Hundredth 3
Anniversary; and 4
WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting 5
tribute to the Orrville Public Library, for throughout its history, 6
this fine institution has attained a remarkable record of service to 7
the area. Begun in 1925 as a collection of six hundred books in a 8
vacant room at the high school, the library dedicated its present 9
building in 1941, and with the vision of becoming an expansive 10
community resource, it completed an addition in 1977 and another 11
addition and renovation in 2000; and 12
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Orrville Public Library has 13
fostered education, culture, and individual growth and achievement by 14
providing a variety of innovative and beneficial programs and 15
services. As a focal point for many local activities and a valuable 16
instrument for community improvement, the library has earned the 17
respect and appreciation of countless patrons and has set an example 18
of excellence that is worthy of emulation; and 19
WHEREAS, Public libraries play an important role in today’s 20
society, serving as receptacles of shared knowledge, information, and 21
ideas. They provide a means of enjoyment, self-advancement, and 22
intellectual development for all individuals, and as repositories for 23
the best of our nation’s intellectual endeavors, they are vital to the 24
preservation of our country’s heritage, principles, and ideals. We are 25
proud to note that it is through the efforts of institutions such as 26

the Orrville Public Library that our state has maintained its 27
reputation as a friendly, productive, and pleasant place in which to 28
live and work; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 30
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 31
commend the Orrville Public Library on its One Hundredth Anniversary 32
and extend best wishes for continued success; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 34
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Orrville Public 35
Library. 36
