Honoring the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team on securing the 2025 Division V State Championship.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to applaud the Portsmouth High 2
School girls basketball team as the 2025 Division V State Champion; 3
and 4
WHEREAS, The Portsmouth High School girls basketball team is made 5
up of remarkable athletes who have worked diligently to showcase the 6
collective talents of their exceptional squad. At this year’s Division 7
V State Tournament, the Trojans won the state crown with a score of 8
53-38 to claim its first title in program history, and the members 9
amply demonstrated impressive determination, maturity, and finesse in 10
pursuit of this achievement; and 11
WHEREAS, This triumph reflects the staunch resolve of these young 12
individuals, and it signifies the acquisition of valuable experience 13
that is sure to benefit them in later life. Thanks to the tireless 14
efforts of the exceptional Portsmouth High School girls basketball 15
team coaching staff, including Head Coach Amy Hughes, as well as the 16
support of their Trojan community, these athletes have met the demands 17
of an extensive training regimen, and they have just cause for 18
celebration; and 19
WHEREAS, All those who comprise the Portsmouth High School girls 20
basketball team have set an excellent example of what a dedicated 21
group of athletes can achieve when guided by a committed coaching 22
staff and surrounded by loyal fans, sports families, and boosters. 23
These young competitors have certainly proven themselves to be dynamic 24

athletic leaders, and we are confident that as they meet future 25
challenges, they will take with them the valuable lessons they have 26
gained through their participation in basketball; therefore be it 27
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 28
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 29
congratulate the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team on its 30
2025 Division V State Championship title and count its players and 31
coaches among the ranks of outstanding Ohioans; and be it further 32
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 33
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Portsmouth High 34
School girls basketball team. 35
