SB 323: Provide for the natural organic reduction of remains

Ohio · Senate · 136th General Assembly (2025–2026) · last verified April 8, 2026

What SB 323 does, verified April 8, 2026

The bill aims to provide for the natural organic reduction of remains, allowing for a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional cremation or burial methods. This method involves breaking down the human body naturally in the absence of oxygen, resulting in a reduced amount of toxic residue and greenhouse gas emissions. The bill proposes to amend various sections of the revised code to regulate and facilitate this process, including sections related to death certificates, embalming, and funeral practices. The goal is to promote a more sustainable and responsible approach to end-of-life care, while also providing families with more options for handling the remains of their loved ones.
