Honoring the Bishop Watterson High School girls soccer team as the 2024 Division II State Champion.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to recognize the Bishop Watterson High School 2
girls soccer team on winning the 2024 Division II State Championship; 3
and 4
WHEREAS, A standout group of young athletes, the members of the 5
Bishop Watterson High School girls soccer team have established 6
themselves as truly exceptional competitors by combining talent and 7
spirit with the highest ideals of good sportsmanship. With admirable 8
dedication, the Eagles worked diligently toward attaining ultimate 9
proficiency in soccer, and as a result, they defeated a tough North 10
Royalton squad by the score of 2-1 to win this year’s Division II 11
State Championship, their first such title in program history, and 12
finished the season with an impressive 20-2-0 record, the best in 13
program history; and 14
WHEREAS, The achievements and leadership of the Bishop Watterson 15
High School girls soccer team are a justifiable source of pride and an 16
excellent reflection on the players, their families, their school 17
community, and their head coach, Scott Dempsey. Indeed, in leading the 18
team to victory, Coach Dempsey has helped these athletes to develop 19
great talent by instilling the valuable lessons of determination, 20
perseverance, and camaraderie; and 21
WHEREAS, With athletic competition playing such an important role 22
in the total education of our young people, we are pleased to pay 23
tribute to the exemplary athletes and the outstanding coaches of the 24

The maturity and experience the team members have gained through their 26
participation in sports will greatly aid them in meeting the 27
challenges of the future; therefore be it 28
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General 29
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate the Bishop 30
Watterson High School girls soccer team on its tremendous 2024 season 31
and praise the members and coaches as some of Ohio’s finest citizens; 32
and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 34
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Bishop Watterson High 35
School girls soccer team. 36
