AB 1012: Medi-Cal: immigration status.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified February 3, 2026

What AB 1012 does, verified February 3, 2026

The proposed legislation aims to amend Medi-Cal eligibility and funding. Currently, individuals with unsatisfactory immigrant status are eligible for Medi-Cal benefits if they meet other requirements. However, this bill would make those individuals ineligible for Medi-Cal benefits. The funds previously allocated for Medi-Cal benefits to ineligible individuals would be transferred to a new "Serving Our Seniors Fund". The fund would then be used to restore and maintain payments for Medicare Part B premiums for eligible individuals. This would create a continuous appropriation, allowing for ongoing funding without fiscal year restrictions.
