AB 1043: Age verification signals: software applications and online services.
This law requires software applications and online services to provide age verification signals to users. Starting January 1, 2027, operating system providers and application stores must give users an option to indicate their birth date or age at account setup, and provide a signal to developers about a user's age bracket when they download and launch an application. This helps protect children from online scams and ensures they receive proper privacy protections. The law also prohibits the misuse of third-party data and imposes a civil penalty for noncompliance, which will be enforced by the attorney general.
