AB 1181: Firefighters: personal protective equipment.
The bill aims to improve firefighter personal protective equipment (ppe) safety by modifying existing safety standards. The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board must review and consider revisions to national fire protection association standards, which require a greater degree of personal protection than current safety orders. The board must make a decision by July 1 of the following year. The bill also requires the board to address national fire protection association performance standards that result in the use of hazardous substances in firefighter ppe. The division of occupational safety and health must report on progress toward implementation of the modified ppe safety standards by July 1, 2026.
