AB 1250: Transit operators: paratransit: recertification of eligibility.
This bill would require transit operators to establish a streamlined recertification process for eligible persons, who are those who receive or are eligible to receive paratransit services due to a disability that is unlikely to improve over time, as determined by a qualified medical professional. The streamlined process would be mandatory starting January 1, 2027, and would only be optional after June 1, 2027, unless certain conditions apply. Transit operators would need to ensure that the streamlined process is used for eligible persons unless their ability to access the fixed route system is expected to improve. The bill would also require the state to reimburse local agencies for costs mandated by the state, if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains such costs.
