What AB 1449 does, verified February 3, 2026

This bill amends California law to change the timeframe for prospective adoptive parents to file with the court after taking a child into temporary custody in a hospital. The new requirement is to file an adoption request within 7 working days after the adoption placement agreement is executed, or a guardianship petition within 30 calendar days after the child's discharge from the hospital.
