AB 1488: Self-defense.

This bill, the preemptive self-defense act, would clarify that a person can make lawful resistance to a public offense if they reasonably perceive an imminent threat of bodily harm. The resistance must be proportional to the perceived threat and cease when the threat is no longer present. The bill would prohibit considering a person's background, training, or fighting skills when determining whether they took reasonable defensive action. This law would also protect individuals from civil liability for lawfully resisting a public offense, and would not create a cause of action against them.
