AB 1568: Sex offenses: registration.
This bill aims to amend the sex offender registration act in California. It requires the court to consider a person's current risk of reoffense, as indicated on the state-authorized risk assessment tool for sex offenders, when determining whether to order continued registration. The court must also consider whether the offender was in a position of trust or authority in relation to the victim and proof of participation in or successful completion of sex offender-specific treatment. If the offender has completed treatment, the court must verify this information. If the court is unable to verify treatment, it can order a risk assessment. This bill makes other clarifying changes to the existing law.
