AB 1759: Prisons: classification.
The bill aims to improve the state's prison classification system by conducting a study to reassess its effectiveness. The study will be conducted by an independent research entity contracted by the Office of the Inspector General. The research entity must have expertise on department of corrections and rehabilitation policy and data. The study will include policy recommendations to enhance the classification system. The report will be published by January 1, 2028, and will contain findings and recommendations for improvement. The goal is to enhance the effectiveness of the classification system and make placements more reasonable.
