California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified March 7, 2026

What AB 1762 does, verified March 7, 2026

The bill aims to authorize a city to provide employer contributions for postretirement health care coverage to certain employees. The city can enter into an agreement with these employees, subject to a collectively bargained memorandum of understanding and a minimum level for employer contributions. The agreement must provide at least 5 years of credited service for employees to be eligible. This benefit will only apply to employees who retire after a memorandum of understanding becomes effective. The city must notify employees of the agreement and provide any necessary additional information.
