AB 1877: Domestic violence: protective orders.

This bill aims to strengthen penalties for domestic violence cases. A willful and knowing violation of specified protective orders or stay-away orders will be punishable as either a misdemeanor or a felony if the subject of the order was charged with or convicted of a felony related to the conduct. This means that individuals who have a history of serious crimes may face more severe consequences for violating protective orders. Additionally, a second or subsequent conviction for violating protective orders will be considered a felony. The bill also requires courts to consider the severity of the offense and public protection when setting bail.
