AB 1960: Wildfire Prevention Grants Program: wildfire mitigation validation.
This bill aims to support wildfire prevention efforts by allowing neighborhoods with a high percentage of homes certified in fire safety measures to access additional funding. To qualify, a neighborhood must have at least 50% of its homes certified by a state-approved program by June 1, 2027. The department will disburse up to 20% of wildfire prevention grant funds to neighborhoods that partner with fire safe councils to reduce hazardous fuels, plan for wildfires, and educate residents. Neighborhoods that partner with fire safe councils will receive additional points in the evaluation process, making it easier for them to secure grant funding.
