AB 2054: Family temporary disability insurance program: covered active duty.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 25, 2026

What AB 2054 does, verified August 25, 2026

The bill expands the definition of "covered active duty" to include duty during training, deployment other than deployment to a foreign country, and a call or order to state active duty. This change would allow workers to receive family temporary disability insurance benefits for time off work related to these expanded circumstances. The bill would make an appropriation to fund the expanded purposes, and would amend the existing law to provide up to 8 weeks of wage replacement benefits to workers who take time off work to care for a seriously ill family member or bond with a minor child, or to participate in a qualifying exigency related to the covered active duty of a family member.
