What AB 2187 does, verified August 25, 2026

this bill would amend certain laws related to public contracts in california. it would exempt certain contracts from advertising and bidding requirements, including contracts with federally recognized california native american tribes. these contracts would not be required to have at least three competitive bids or proposals. the bill would also allow federally recognized california native american tribes to include subcontractors that are also federally recognized tribes, as long as they provide a limited waiver of sovereign immunity and a justification of cost. additionally, contracts for tribal cultural resources purposes would be exempt from a provision that prohibits people or firms from submitting bids for or being awarded contracts for similar services.
