This bill establishes a pilot program that grants peace officer authority to certain tribal police officers on Indian lands and elsewhere in the state from July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2029. The program would allow tribal police officers to act under specified circumstances, with minimum qualifications and certification and training requirements. Participating tribes would need to adopt a law or resolution authorizing this exercise of authority and provide public access to certain records. The program would also enable participating tribes to establish domestic violence death review teams, share liability and collaborate on missing and murdered indigenous persons cases, and enter into agreements to share liability.
