<p>The bill amends sections of California's government code regarding corrections. It requires county boards establishing a Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to provide reasons for doing so, includes fire camps under the jurisdiction of this department, clarifies that such departments can employ peace officers, and sets qualifications and duties for the executive officer heading the department. Additionally, it specifies that in counties with an established Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the sheriff is not the sole authority over county jails.</p>
