AB 230: Pest control: Pierce’s disease.
The bill aims to extend the operation of provisions related to the control and management of pierce's disease, a plant disease affecting grapevines, until March 1, 2036. These provisions include funding for research, education, and other activities to combat the disease and its vectors. The bill also extends the annual assessment paid by grape processors into the department of food and agriculture fund for research and other activities related to pierce's disease. Additionally, the bill requires the secretary to establish a list of eligible individuals to vote in a referendum on the continued implementation of these provisions by April 15, 2030. The bill also makes findings about the need to limit access to meetings of public bodies and writings of public officials and agencies to protect the public interest.
