AB 2395: Child support: compromise of arrears program.
This bill aims to amend the child support laws in California to improve the compromise of arrears program. The program allows the Department of Child Support Services to accept offers in compromise of child support arrears and interest accrued thereon for reimbursement of aid paid under the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids Act. The bill increases the existing authority to compromise an amount of child support arrears from $5,000 to $10,000 and requires the Department to promulgate regulations to implement uniform forms, standards, procedures, and notice and reporting requirements for local child support agencies. Local child support agencies are required to include information about the compromise of arrears program on their internet website and to act on applications within specified timelines.
