AB 2529: Civil claims: public entities and employees: declaration.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 6, 2026

What AB 2529 does, verified August 6, 2026

This bill aims to expand the crime of perjury to cover public employees and former employees seeking monetary damages against their former employers. A civil complaint or cross-complaint filed by an employee or former employee must be verified under penalty of perjury. The court can grant a motion to strike the complaint if it is not verified. Additionally, the bill requires public agencies to report to the district attorney if they suspect perjury in a claim, and authorizes the district attorney to investigate and take action. This expansion of perjury can be considered a state-mandated local program.
