AB 2542: Human remains: disposition.

The bill, Marissa's Law, aims to amend the existing law regarding the control of human remains after a person's death. If a funeral director or cemetery authority knows that the person with the right of control was subject to a restraining order for domestic violence against the deceased, they must pass the right of control to the next of kin. If the person with the right of control is a parent of the deceased and granting disposition rights would have been contrary to the decedent's best interests, the right of control must also be passed to the next of kin. This change prioritizes the safety and well-being of the deceased and their loved ones.
