AB 2549: Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003: manufacturer notices.
The bill requires manufacturers of electronic devices, including battery-embedded products, to provide retailers with notices about the recycling fees associated with those products. The notices must include the product's brand, model number, and universal product code (UPC). Retailers must receive these notices at least 60 days before they must take action regarding the product. The manufacturer must submit the notices to the California Department of Resources, Recycling, and Recovery (Calrecycle) by a specified date each year. Calrecycle must create a searchable database of the notices and post the information on its website. This database will help retailers determine their obligations under the law and will provide a standardized online upload process for manufacturers.
