AB 2567: CalWORKs: immediate assistance.

The bill aims to amend the CalWORKs program to provide immediate assistance to low-income families in need. Currently, the county determines if an applicant needs immediate assistance and is apparently eligible for CalWORKs aid, and pays them $200 or the maximum eligible amount. The proposed bill requires the county to make a determination of apparent eligibility for immediate assistance and homeless assistance without requiring an applicant to apply for unconditionally available income. The bill also provides that the continuous appropriation for the CalWORKs program would not be made for purposes of the bill, and if the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs shall be made.
